Scanola Baltic heat recovery solution from waste heat of rapeseed oil refining
For Scanola Baltic AS, we implemented the recovery of residual heat generated during the refining of rapeseed oil. We installed a plate heat exchanger with a stainless steel interior compliant with food industry requirements and an oil trap, which directs preheated fresh air to unheated adjacent rooms. The system replaces hot 40 °C air with approximately 20 °C fresh air and maintains the supply air at +20 °C even at an outdoor temperature of −21 °C. The solution is connected to the production control system, enabling remote control and alarm notifications.


Project challenge
The warm air generated during refining had until now gone unused, while adjacent rooms required both ventilation and additional heat. As this is a food industry facility, the sector's specific requirements had to be met, directly affecting the choice of equipment and the materials used.
How we built it
In accordance with food industry requirements, we selected a special heat exchanger and directed fresh air, preheated with the residual heat generated during refining, into the unheated adjacent rooms, providing them with both additional ventilation and heat at once. At the client's request, we connected the system to the existing production control system, enabling remote control and alarm notifications in the event of deviations.
