Factory Welding Workshop Push-Pull Ventilation

We upgraded the ventilation of the manual welding stations at Sami Tootmine's Valga factory in two areas, each with 10 workstations. We installed cyclone filters together with fans from the Danish manufacturer Gram Clean Air and designed a push-pull ventilation system with air calculations. We integrated automation that activates the filter system only when welding is actually taking place, ensuring energy savings and a clean working environment. In addition, we helped find a suitable welding filter for the robotic welding area.

Factory Welding Workshop Push-Pull Ventilation

Project challenge

At the Valga factory, ventilation for manual welding workstations had to be resolved in two separate areas, each containing 10 workstations. The goal was to ensure a clean working environment and safe working conditions for the welders. In addition, the new robotic welding solution required a suitable welding filter.

How we built the solution

We installed equipment from the Danish manufacturer Gram Clean Air and designed a push-pull ventilation system. We carried out the necessary air calculations to ensure the correct and efficient operation of the system. For the robotic welding area, we helped select the right welding filter, which also ensures a clean environment there.

  • Gram Clean Air cyclone filters together with fans
  • Push-pull ventilation system
  • Air calculations for efficient system operation
  • 2 areas, each with 10 manual welding workstations
  • Welding filter for the robotic welding area

Automation

We integrated an automation solution that analyzes the welders' work activity and starts the filter system only when welding is actually taking place. This ensures energy savings and a clean working environment.

Result

The client received a modern, compliant and reliable ventilation solution that keeps the working environment clean and the working conditions safe and comfortable for the welders. The solution covers both the manual welding and the robotic welding area.

How large was the welding area?
We upgraded the manual welding station ventilation in two areas, each with 10 workstations.
What equipment was installed?
We installed Danish manufacturer Gram Clean Air cyclone filters with fans and designed a push-pull ventilation system with air calculations.
How does the system save energy?
We integrated automation that starts the filter system only when welding is actually happening, ensuring energy savings and a clean work environment.
Did the robot welding area also get a solution?
Yes — for the robot welding solution we helped choose a suitable welding filter to ensure a clean environment there too.

Welding hall ventilation solution with smart remote management

We built a push-pull general ventilation system for the welding hall with two separately controlled zones, ensuring a total air circulation of up to 60,000 m³/h (the requirement was ≥45,000 m³/h) and over 10,000 m³/h of fresh air. We installed two GRAM 364DH double cyclones with 45 kW fans and a C.I.C Jan Hrebec plate heat exchanger with water heating, which reduces heating demand. Compliance of air quality with health protection limit values was confirmed by measurements carried out together with the Health Board, and the entire system is controlled by a single control panel with real-time remote management.

Push-Pull welding ventilation for a metal production hall in Saue

At a metalworking company's production hall in Saue, we solved the blue welding fume problem using the Push-Pull method, as the use of welding arms was not possible due to the large components and continuous crane operation. We installed an FL series filter with GRAM welding cartridges, prepared a 3D piping installation drawing, and carried out the installation. The filtered air is directed into the hall from floor level, and the welding fumes are extracted from above the workstation, beneath the ceiling.

Complete ventilation solution for a welding workshop in Saue

For Sami AS's new powder-coating production hall in Saue, we established a complete welding ventilation system: push-pull systems for a manual welding area with 30 workstations, customised ventilation hoods for a robotic welding area with 6+1 positions, and a solution for 4 local extraction workstations. The systems start up automatically according to the workload and switch off when welding is completed, ensuring clean, fume-free air and significant energy savings.
