Workshop dust extraction for fiber-reinforced plastics processing

We designed and installed an aspiration system at the Threod Systems workshop for machining fiber-reinforced plastic components both manually and with CNC machines. The system operates automatically based on machine signals, maintaining stable negative pressure regardless of the number of machines in operation. We used the Danish manufacturer GramCleanAir FL-series filter, which ensures maximally efficient dust removal and improved energy efficiency. The result was significantly improved air quality and better working conditions for employees.

Project Challenge

The design and calculations had to account for several complex factors. Material processing takes place in two adjacent rooms, where work is carried out at different times and with varying cycle durations. In addition, the limited volume of the space necessitated the development of a compact and space-saving solution that would not compromise productivity or performance.

How We Built It

We implemented a system in which air exchange occurs according to a defined constant pressure. Based on signals from the CNC machines, the appropriate dampers in the ductwork open automatically, ensuring the stability of negative pressure regardless of the number of machines in operation. This keeps dust extraction effective both during manual processing and when working with CNC machines. As a filter, we selected a reliable solution with a wide range of applications.

  • Danish manufacturer GramCleanAir FL-series filter
  • Automatic damper control based on CNC machine signals
  • Constant-pressure-based air exchange
  • Solution for two adjacent processing rooms

What We Achieved

  • Consistently maximum-efficiency dust extraction regardless of the number of machines in operation
  • Improved energy efficiency thanks to load-based automation
  • Significantly improved air quality and lower dust levels
  • Better working conditions for employees

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does the system adapt to a varying number of operating machines?
The system is based on constant pressure and automatically opens the appropriate valves in the ductwork according to signals from the CNC machines. This keeps the negative pressure stable and dust extraction effective regardless of how many machines are running.
Which filter is used in the solution?
We use the FL-series filter from the Danish manufacturer GramCleanAir, a reliable solution with a wide range of applications.
Is the solution suitable for multiple processing rooms?
Yes, the solution was designed for two adjacent processing rooms where work is done at different times and with different cycle lengths.
Does the solution work for both manual and CNC processing?
Yes, dust extraction remains effective both during manual processing and when working with CNC machines.
What results does this system deliver?
The system ensures maximally effective dust extraction at all times, better energy efficiency thanks to load-based automation, and significantly improved air quality with lower dust levels. This creates better working conditions for employees.
