Compressor heat recovery in industry – energy savings of up to 800 kWh per day

At an industrial enterprise, we installed a heat recovery system on two compressors (55 kW and 37 kW) that directs the resulting waste heat to heating production processes. The solution was integrated into the existing heating system and significantly reduced the boiler's operating load. The result was energy savings of approximately 800 kWh per day and improved overall system energy efficiency.

Project Challenge

The client's production process required a stable temperature in both the painting and drying rooms. To ensure this, the boiler was used continuously, including during the summer period. At the same time, the compressors operated daily under heavy loads, but their waste heat had not been put to use.

How We Built the Solution

We installed a heat recovery system on two compressors, which directs the generated waste heat to heat the production processes. The solution was integrated with the existing heating system, reducing the need to use the high-capacity boiler. Heat recovery solutions are not limited to merely installing equipment – every production process is different, and to achieve maximum effect we design and implement a complete solution, from selecting the suitable equipment to integrating it into the existing system, including as a custom solution where necessary.

  • Heat recovery system for the 55 kW compressor
  • Heat recovery system for the 37 kW compressor
  • Directing waste heat to heat the painting and drying rooms
  • Integration with the existing heating system

Result

The solution significantly reduced the operating load of the boiler, lowered energy costs, and improved the energy efficiency of the entire system. Thanks to maximum utilization of waste heat, significantly greater energy savings were achieved than with a standard solution alone.

  • Energy savings of approximately 800 kWh per day
  • Significantly reduced boiler operating load
  • Lower energy costs and better energy efficiency

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much energy does this heat recovery save?
The solution saves roughly 800 kWh per day, significantly reducing the boiler's operating load.
Which compressors was the system installed on?
The heat recovery system was installed on two compressors — 55 kW and 37 kW — with the waste heat directed to heating the paint and drying rooms.
Does the solution work with an existing heating system?
Yes — the system was integrated with the existing heating system, reducing the need to run the high-power boiler.
Is heat recovery the same in every factory?
No — every production process differs, so we design and deliver a complete solution from choosing the right equipment to integration, as a custom solution when needed.

Heat recovery ventilation for paint hall in Karksi

For the timber workshop's new production building, we designed and installed a ventilation system based on a plate heat exchanger with automatic pressure control. The system recovers thermal energy generated during the painting process, compensates for vacuum, and removes moisture originating from the autoclave. Thanks to this solution, the company can continue using its existing boiler without the heat load exceeding the boiler's capacity.

Factory Air Compensation and Heat Energy Recovery in the Woodworking Industry

We supplied a woodworking company with an ATEX-rated ventilation unit with an air volume of 24,000 m3/h, which serves the existing MAKOR oven and recovers thermal energy by means of a plate heat exchanger. The unit compensates the factory air and ensures a better indoor climate in production. As the oven operates in two modes, pressure control was added to manage both the oven operating mode and the internal production conditions.

Compressor Waste Heat Recovery for Window and Door Manufacturers

We developed a centralised heat recovery solution for the AS Viljandi Aken ja Uks factory, which directs the waste heat from four compressors to heat the ventilation units. The system includes control automation and heat meters for monitoring energy quantities. The installation produces 2 MW of thermal energy per day for the customer, reducing energy waste and improving the working environment.
