This technology is based on the evaporation of water, which occurs by directing a certain volume of air through water-moistened panels. This causes a decrease in air temperature and an increase in air humidity.Ventilation unitsCIC ventilation units are our core solution for enterprises in the painting, coating and chemical industries, where flammable solvents, gases or dust are processed. The H- and HL-series units are available in a full ATEX version (Ex zones 1 and 2). In addition, we offer standard, moisture-resistant, outdoor installation and hygienic versions — with a total air exchange ranging from 2000 to 100,000 m³/h.Ventilation FiltersVentilation filters ensure clean air in industrial premises, ventilation units and paint spray booths. Elister offers a wide range of filters — from panel filters and bag filters to filter mats — both as general industrial ventilation filters and specifically as supply and extract air filters for paint spray rooms.

Industrial ventilation is not just air exchange – it keeps temperature, humidity and contaminants under control in production. In the painting, lacquering and chemical industries, mitigating explosion risk is added: solvent vapours and dust require equipment compliant with ATEX requirements. Elister designs, supplies and maintains the entire chain – from the fan to the air handling unit and filters.

Choosing the fan type

An industrial fan is selected based on two figures: how much air needs to be moved (m³/h) and how great the pressure loss of the system is. Most solutions come down to two types:

  • Centrifugal fan (radial fan) – generates higher pressure and is suitable where the air must pass through long ductwork, a filter or a scrubber. Suitable for dusty and hot air.
  • Axial fan – moves a large volume of air at low pressure, suitable for general ventilation and duct installation.

Industrial fans in our range

Air handling units and heat recovery

  • CIC H / HL – modular units with frameless sandwich casing (2 × 0.8 mm steel, 50 mm panel, mineral wool 50 kg/m³, fire class A1); configurable from heat recovery, heating, cooling and filtration modules
  • CIC H-UNI – dehumidification, cooling and heating in one device; reversible heat pump and high-efficiency plate heat exchanger
  • CIC H-TOP – roof-mounted, with axial fans, 2 independent refrigerant circuits and 2–4 scroll compressors

What to consider when choosing a ventilation solution

  • Air volume and pressure loss – duct length, filters and scrubbers determine whether an axial or centrifugal fan is suitable
  • Medium temperature – for drying ovens and process air this is decisive (WWOax withstands up to 500 °C)
  • Explosion risk (ATEX) – solvent vapours and fine dust require certified equipment; the correct explosion group, temperature class and zone are important
  • Material – stainless or acid-resistant steel for acidic or humid environments
  • Heat recovery – it is worth recovering the heat from exhaust air; this is usually the greatest source of savings

Technical data and fan types

The right industrial fan is selected based on air volume (m³/h), required pressure (Pa), temperature, dust and gas load, and the explosion risk of the environment. The main types:

  • Centrifugal fan – high pressure, suitable for systems with long ductwork and filters. Our WWOax series withstands air up to 500 °C and dust (0.5 g/m³), available in carbon or stainless steel (1.4301), with direct, coupling or belt drive.
  • Axial fan – high airflow at low pressure, suitable for direct duct installation. WOK EX is made of acid-resistant steel, protection class IP-54, operating temperature −15…+40 °C.
  • ATEX fan (explosion-proof) – for explosive environments (dust or solvent vapours). FKPa meets ATEX 2014/34/UE requirements: gas groups IIA/IIB (2G) and IIA/IIB/IIC (3G), temperature classes T1–T3. The drum rotor WB EX has a test laboratory certificate.

If you are not sure whether you need a centrifugal fan, an axial fan or an ATEX fan, we will calculate the air volume and pressure according to your process and offer a suitable industrial fan.

Common questions about this product.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a centrifugal and an axial fan?
A centrifugal fan (radial fan) generates higher pressure and is suitable for use behind long ducting, a filter or a scrubber, as well as for dusty and hot air. An axial fan moves a large volume of air at low pressure and is suitable for general ventilation or for installation in a duct. The choice is determined by the air volume together with the system's pressure loss.
When is an ATEX-certified fan required?
When the air may contain flammable solvent vapours or fine dust – typically in the painting, varnishing, and chemical industries. Our ATEX fans (FKPa, WOK EX, WB EX) comply with Directive 2014/34/UE. It is essential to select the correct explosion group (IIA, IIB, IIC), temperature class, and zone.
How much heat can the fan withstand?
The WWOax centrifugal fan is designed for the transport of air and gases up to 500 °C, with a dust content of up to 0.5 g/m³. For drying ovens and process air, temperature resistance is one of the primary selection criteria.
Can heat be recovered from the exhaust air?
Yes, and this is usually the greatest area of savings. CIC H/HL units can be equipped with a heat recovery module, while the CIC H-UNI and H-TOP include a reversible heat pump and a high-efficiency heat exchanger.
Does Elister design the system or only sell equipment?
Both. We calculate air volumes and pressure losses according to the production process, select the fan and the unit, arrange the installation as well as subsequent maintenance and filter replacement.
Should ventilation be planned together with the painting or drying equipment?
Preferably yes. The air balance of the paint booth, drying and dust extraction directly affects the finishing quality. Since we supply both, the solution is matched together already at the design stage.
What is an ATEX fan?
The ATEX fan is an explosion-proof industrial fan suitable for hazardous environments – for example, handling dust or solvent vapours. Our FKPa complies with the ATEX 2014/34/UE requirements (gas groups IIA/IIB/IIC, temperature classes T1–T3).
When to choose a centrifugal fan and when to choose an axial fan?
A centrifugal fan is suitable when high pressure is required – for example, in systems with long ductwork and filters. An axial fan provides high air flow at low pressure and is suitable for direct duct installation. We calculate the air volume and pressure based on your system and recommend the appropriate type.
What temperature can an industrial fan withstand?
It depends on the model – for example, the WWOax centrifugal fan withstands air temperatures of up to 500 °C. We select the material (carbon or stainless steel) and the model according to the operating environment temperature and load.
