Measurement devices help ensure consistent quality and a controlled production process. Correct measurements make it possible to prevent errors, reduce rejects and ensure uniform finishing quality.
We offer precise measurement devices for both production and laboratory use – from simple control measurements to complex analyses and quality control. Our solutions are based on the Elcometer and Coatmaster product lines, which have proven their reliability in metalworking and surface treatment worldwide.
Key benefits- precise and reliable quality control – compliance with ISO and EN standards
- fewer rejects and production errors – problems are detected early
- better process traceability – all measurement results stored and analysable
- faster and easier control in production – portable and intuitive devices
- comprehensive software support – ElcoMaster data management and reporting
- coating thickness gauges – magnetic and eddy current based measurement
- adhesion strength and surface testing devices – cross-cut and pull-off tests
- gloss and colour tone measurement devices – gloss meters and spectrophotometers

We help you select suitable measurement devices according to your production process, materials and quality requirements. A correctly chosen solution helps ensure a consistent result and efficient production. We offer devices both for individual inspection and for comprehensive laboratory and production solutions.
Frequently asked questionsWhat is a coating thickness gauge and when is it needed?
A coating thickness gauge is a device that measures the thickness of a paint layer, lacquer or other coating on a substrate without damaging the surface. It is needed whenever you must check whether a coated surface complies with the paint manufacturer's specifications and standards (e.g. ISO 19840, ISO 2178). An insufficient coating layer causes corrosion, while an overly thick layer causes cracking and peeling.
What is the difference between magnetic and eddy current based coating thickness measurement?
The magnetic measurement principle is suitable for measuring non-magnetic coatings on a ferromagnetic base (e.g. painted steel). The eddy current based method is suitable for measuring non-magnetic materials (aluminium, copper, stainless steel). Dual-mode devices (e.g. Elcometer 456) detect the base automatically and switch the method accordingly.
How to choose a suitable measurement device for a production environment?
When choosing, you must consider the material to be measured (ferromagnetic vs. non-ferromagnetic base), the required measurement accuracy, the production conditions (temperature, humidity, vibration) and the data management requirements. Elister helps you make a suitable choice during a free consultation – contact our specialist.
Do measurement devices need to be calibrated and how often?
Yes, regular calibration is a requirement of good measurement practice. In a production environment, calibration is recommended at the start of each working day against a zero plate and a standard plate of known thickness. For official certification, the device must be calibrated in an accredited laboratory in accordance with ISO 19840 or another applicable standard.
What is ElcoMaster software and what is it useful for?
ElcoMaster is Elcometer's software platform that allows measurement data to be transferred from the device to a computer or mobile device, results to be analysed, inspection reports to be generated automatically and shared with customers. This reduces manual reporting by up to 70% and minimises human errors in data entry.
