The Graco 2KS+3KS dosing system automates Arens AS production

For the kitchen furniture manufacturer Arens AS, we supplied and installed a Graco ProMix 2KS dosing system on their production line, which we expanded with a 3K module to maintain viscosity control. The solution was integrated with the automated finishing line and enables topcoat colour changes within the pump circuit while the line applies primer. The material containers were transferred to larger tanks (1000 l and 200 l) together with agitators, a lift and safety vessels, making production significantly more automated.

Project challenge

The client had no prior strong experience with Graco products, which meant a suitable and reliable initial solution had to be selected. It was also necessary to ensure paint viscosity control and convenient tone changing, considering that tone changes do not occur very often.

How we built it

After gathering the necessary information, it became clear that the right device was the Graco ProMix 3KS. We decided to start with the 2KS model, which we expanded with a 3K module to keep viscosity under control. During installation, we added the option to perform a surface paint tone change within the pump circuit — this can be done at the same time as the spray line uses the system for priming.

  • Graco ProMix 2KS dosing system, expanded with a 3K module
  • Tone change within the pump circuit for surface paint
  • Mixers for 1000 l and 200 l containers
  • A mixer with a lift for the surface paint container
  • Special barrel kits for solvent containers (accessing the solvent by opening only one cap to prevent the spread of odors)
  • Plastic safety containers for larger vessels — compact and lightweight

What we achieved

  • Production became significantly more automated and material containers were moved to larger tanks
  • Primer will henceforth be supplied in a one-tonne barrel, the main surface tone in 200-litre and other tones in 20-litre barrels
  • Solvents intended for dilution and washing also come in 200-litre containers
  • Viscosity remains under control thanks to the 3K module
  • With this project, Graco's high-level multi-component dosing system is already in its sixth company in Estonia — proof that investing in multi-component equipment is no longer solely the domain of the metal industry

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which Graco dosing system was used in this project?
The Graco ProMix 2KS dosing system was used, expanded with a 3K module. This solution was chosen to keep the paint viscosity under control.
How was paint viscosity control solved?
Viscosity is kept under control thanks to the 3K module added to the 2KS model. This ensures a consistent finishing result.
Can the color change be done without stopping production?
Yes, the surface paint color change can be done within the pump circuit at the same time as the spray line uses the system for priming.
What containers was the material moved to?
Primer is delivered in a one-tonne barrel, the main surface tone in 200-liter and other tones in 20-liter barrels. Solvents for dilution and cleaning also come in 200-liter containers.
Is this solution also suitable for non-metal industries?
Yes, this project marks the sixth company in Estonia to use this Graco multi-component dosing system. It proves that the investment is no longer solely the domain of the metal industry.

Manual finishing booths with drying tunnel and pump cabinets

For a returning customer, we manufactured wider manual finishing booths with a drying tunnel as well as specialized pump cabinets for paint pumps, into which safety leak trays were integrated. The solution was designed as a 3D model according to the customer's requirements, and in addition to the booths and pump cabinets, we organized all partition walls, doors, and finishing technology. The result was a fast and seamless implementation and a satisfied customer who received exactly the solution they wanted.

Manual finishing department: two paint booths and a drying tunnel

We established a dedicated manual finishing department for a long-term client to produce custom orders. We installed two 3-metre-wide finishing booths, six finishing pumps, a drying tunnel, and in-house manufactured GRINO drying trolleys. To ensure worker safety, we added barriers and fast-opening doors that separate the finishing area from the rest of production. The new department operates flawlessly and successfully fulfils all custom orders.

Renovation of a Door Manufacturer's Finishing Workshop – MAKOR Automatic Line and Manual Finishing Booth

An automatic finishing solution, MAKOR SPRAY & DRY – M, was designed and installed for a Central Estonian door manufacturer, together with a manual finishing booth built by Elister. The heart of the finishing process consisted of GRACO PerformAA automatic paint guns with Merkur-series pumps, and the ventilation was interfaced directly with the Makor system, which detects the operating equipment and adjusts the working modes. The entire system was designed, installed and commissioned into working order precisely during the factory's collective holiday, resulting in an energy-efficient and safe finishing environment.
