Sawmill return conveyor with pusher mechanism for the woodworking industry

At an Estonian sawmill, we replaced hazardous and physically demanding manual labour, where the operator had to carry edged log offcuts several metres by hand to the adjacent conveyor. We designed, manufactured and installed an operator-controlled roller conveyor with pneumatic pushers that automatically direct the offcuts onto the existing conveyor. In addition, we upgraded the equipment's safety circuits, making the work process safe and convenient.

Project challenge

The existing workflow was physically demanding, inconvenient and hazardous to the operator. Moving log residues manually over several metres required a great deal of manual labour and created dangerous situations. The challenge was that no suitable ready-made product existed on the market.

How we built the solution

At the client's request, we designed an operator-controlled roller conveyor with pushers that routes the respective residue onto the existing conveyor. We prepared a drawing of the roller conveyor together with the pushing mechanism, and manufactured and installed the conveyor on site.

  • Roller conveyor with a drive and pneumatic pushing mechanism
  • Operator control panel
  • Upgraded safety circuits
  • Design, manufacturing and installation

Result

The operations performed by the operator became safe and considerably more convenient — log residues no longer need to be carried manually, but are instead routed automatically onto the correct conveyor. The safety circuits, upgraded together with the conveyor, increased the safety of the entire working area.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What problem did this conveyor solve?
It replaced dangerous and physically demanding manual work where the operator had to carry edged-log offcuts several metres by hand to a side conveyor.
Was this an off-the-shelf product or custom-made?
No suitable off-the-shelf product existed, so we designed, manufactured and installed a custom solution.
How do the offcuts move now?
An operator-controlled roller conveyor with pneumatic pushers automatically directs the offcut onto the existing conveyor.
Was work safety also improved?
Yes — along with the conveyor we updated the machine's safety circuits, raising safety across the whole work area.
