Factory Welding Ventilation Upgrade

We upgraded the ventilation of a four-workstation welding and plasma cutting area at Konesko's Põltsamaa factory, which previously failed to fulfil its purpose. We installed two separate filters and localised the welding fumes in the work area using the Push-Pull method. To keep the plasma process under control, we used LE type welding arms with a **1500 mm** working range, which limited the spread of residues throughout the entire factory.

Factory Welding Ventilation Upgrade

Project challenge

The existing ventilation in the area had been built at some point but no longer served its purpose. During plasma cutting of metal, smoke was released both in the work area and at the other end of the product, which meant that residues generated in the process spread throughout the entire factory.

How we built it

We upgraded the ventilation according to our own vision and put two separate filters into operation. We localised the welding smoke in the work area using the Push-Pull method, and to keep the plasma process under control we used LE type welding arms with a 1500 mm working range, which limited the spread of residues across the entire production area.

  • A filter already owned by the client
  • GRAM FL type welding filter
  • LE type welding arms with a 1500 mm working range
  • Push-Pull welding ventilation
  • 4 workstation welding and plasma-cutting area

What we achieved

  • Smoke generated in the welding and plasma-cutting process was localised directly in the work area
  • Residues were kept under control and no longer spread throughout the entire factory
  • A cleaner production environment at all 4 workstations
  • A functional ventilation solution that fulfils its purpose

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many workstations is this welding ventilation solution designed for?
The solution was created for four workstations in a welding and plasma cutting area. A cleaner production environment was achieved at all four stations.
What equipment was used in the solution?
We used a GRAM FL type welding filter, LE type welding arms with a 1500 mm working reach, and Push-Pull welding ventilation. Two separate filters were put to work, including a filter the client already had.
How are welding and plasma cutting fumes kept under control?
Welding fumes were localized in the work area using the Push-Pull method, and LE type welding arms with a 1500 mm working reach were used to control the plasma process. This localized the fumes directly at the work area.
What was the main problem before the upgrade?
The existing ventilation no longer served its purpose, and fumes from plasma cutting spread across the entire factory. Residues spread both in the work area and at the other end of the product.
What results were achieved with the solution?
Fumes from the welding and plasma cutting process were localized directly at the work area, and residues no longer spread across the whole factory. The result was a cleaner production environment and a functioning ventilation solution.

Welding hall ventilation solution with smart remote management

We built a push-pull general ventilation system for the welding hall with two separately controlled zones, ensuring a total air circulation of up to 60,000 m³/h (the requirement was ≥45,000 m³/h) and over 10,000 m³/h of fresh air. We installed two GRAM 364DH double cyclones with 45 kW fans and a C.I.C Jan Hrebec plate heat exchanger with water heating, which reduces heating demand. Compliance of air quality with health protection limit values was confirmed by measurements carried out together with the Health Board, and the entire system is controlled by a single control panel with real-time remote management.

Push-Pull welding ventilation for a metal production hall in Saue

At a metalworking company's production hall in Saue, we solved the blue welding fume problem using the Push-Pull method, as the use of welding arms was not possible due to the large components and continuous crane operation. We installed an FL series filter with GRAM welding cartridges, prepared a 3D piping installation drawing, and carried out the installation. The filtered air is directed into the hall from floor level, and the welding fumes are extracted from above the workstation, beneath the ceiling.

Factory Welding Workshop Push-Pull Ventilation

We upgraded the ventilation of the manual welding stations at Sami Tootmine's Valga factory in two areas, each with 10 workstations. We installed cyclone filters together with fans from the Danish manufacturer Gram Clean Air and designed a push-pull ventilation system with air calculations. We integrated automation that activates the filter system only when welding is actually taking place, ensuring energy savings and a clean working environment. In addition, we helped find a suitable welding filter for the robotic welding area.
