We installed a Gema automatic coating system in Torm Metall's production facility, complementing the seven-stage washing, drying and curing oven and the multifunctional conveyor system established in 2018 into a fully automated set. The solution brought a significant increase in production volumes – the lion's share of pending orders was completed already within the first week of use. A 5-chamber and 7-stage washing system is in use, ensuring top quality for large coating jobs.

The project challenge
Previously, coating was done manually, which is physically demanding and limits throughput – the entire line's productivity relied on two people coating parts one by one by hand. Due to the significant investment, it was reasonable to divide the work into two phases, with the robot's readiness already taken into account during the initial planning of the powder coating line.
How we built it
In 2018, the entire base system required for automated coating was set up in the same production building. In 2021, the Gema automatic coating system was added, completing the fully automated setup. The Gema and Elister solution was selected as a result of extensive preliminary work and research.

What we achieved
- The bulk of pending orders were completed within the first week of use
- A significant leap in production volume growth
- Improved quality capability – the entire process is designed to carry out large coating jobs while maintaining work quality
- The coaters' role shifted to higher value-added work: monitoring and improving the process, where coating itself is no longer the determining factor for throughput
- According to the manager, coating has become one of the company's biggest selling points alongside other services

"Power&Free" conveyor fully automatic powder coating line
A modern powder coating line was designed and installed for Torm Metall OÜ, enabling the washing and coating of products with dimensions of 4500 x 1000 x 1800 mm. The solution included a chamber-based 7-stage washing line with separate cabins for ferrous metal and aluminium, a combi oven, and a fully automatic "Power&Free" conveyor system. In the combi oven, the residual temperature of the curing oven is utilised in the drying oven, which increases energy efficiency.
Investment in a New Automated Powder Coating Line
We designed and installed a fully automatic powder coating line for Tammer, complete with an Aabo-Ideal gas- and electric-heated curing oven and a Gema paint booth operating 16 automatic guns. The monorail conveyor has a load capacity of 100 kg per metre. In addition, we built out the compressed air and ventilation lines. The entire installation was completed in May 2023, having started already before Midsummer.
Powder Coating Automatic Line with Power&Free Conveyor
For Sami AS, for whom we built a two-chamber liquid painting line in 2020, we established an automatic powder coating line as part of a production expansion. The solution includes a Power&Free conveyor and a tunnel-type washing automatic line that enables production analysis and future expansion. The equipment is sourced from reliable manufacturers Gema AG, Aabo-Ideal and Hjort-Conveyor.
