Automation of the Painting Process with 2K Coating Equipment
We installed a Graco 2KS multi-component metering and mixing dispenser at Stera Technologies' production facility, supplied by Graco Merkur paint pumps from the paint kitchen. The solution reduces the time spent on color changeovers and auxiliary activities and automates the entire finishing process. The system enables the supply of paint materials in larger containers, thereby reducing the environmental footprint.
The Project Challenge
Stera Technologies is an internationally operating technology company employing over 850 highly qualified specialists across six locations in Finland and Estonia. In 2021, the company announced a tender for a system for dosing multi-component substances, including installation and training. The ultimate goal of the equipment was to reduce the time spent on ancillary activities in the paint shop and to shorten the production time previously required for switching from one paint colour to another. The company also wished to automate the entire finishing process.
How We Built It
We installed a Graco 2KS multi-component substance mixing dispenser in Stera's production facility, fed by Graco Merkur type paint pumps located in the paint kitchen. During the project, the following was installed:
- GRACO 2KS with the required substance and air lines
- 6 substance pumps for paints
- 2 substance pumps for hardeners
- 3 pneumatic mixers for a 200-litre container

We designed and built a completely new paint room ventilation solution for a metal industry client and upgraded the existing drying room. We used CIC Ex equipment and Konwektor fans suitable for explosive environments, and replaced the ventilation unit with a plate heat exchanger solution that improves heat recovery and reduces energy consumption. We added solvent sensors, compressed air meters, heat meters, and new automation with remote management capability. The result is a reliable, modern, and energy-efficient system that meets all applicable safety and working condition requirements.
Liquid Coating Line for the New Factory in Saue
We designed a complete liquid painting line for the new production building of the machine-building company Sami AS. The solution included two paint booths with water-heated heat exchangers, providing air exchange of 10,000 m³/h per booth, a washing booth with a Husqvarna pressure washer, and a motorized monorail conveyor with a load capacity of 16,000 kg. The line was complemented by control automation with solvent sensors, a 2K electronic mixing dosing unit, and two GRACO electrostatic spray guns.
