Scanfil paint line reuses heat energy!

When we started designing Scanfil's new automatic paint booth in spring 2022, we raised the issue of heat recovery and improving the quality of the production environment with the client.

We came to the joint decision that the optimal solution was to use the excess heat from the furnace by channelling it through the central heating system in the production rooms. This will not only allow a constant supply of fresh air to the paint shop, but also improve the working conditions of the workers. As an added value, Scanfil also envisaged the addition of a cooling function to the ventilation system to ensure a cooler indoor climate in summer.

We successfully implemented a two-stage heat recovery system with a ventilation unit, which is also equipped with a cooling option. All the air blown in is directed specifically to the workers' area, ensuring a pleasant and cool working atmosphere even on the hottest production days. The energy demand of the added system is also covered by the residual heat generated by the furnace, which was previously wasted.

Based on energy optimisation and budget calculations, we have reason to expect that the investment in such a system will pay for itself in about five years, given the amount of energy we will be able to save that was previously directly dissipated to the outside environment.
