Centralised residue suction solution for grinding workstations

Made

2023

Intermediate sanding is often a necessary procedure in the woodworking industry, where, in addition to sanding, the dust generated must also be collected. Although in many cases this can be done with just a sander and a vacuum cleaner, it becomes more complex when there are several sanding sites. It is not economically viable to purchase a separate vacuum cleaner for each grinder, as their motors require frequent replacement due to the heavy loads they are subjected to, and energy consumption also increases significantly.

Purpose

A more effective solution is to centralise the dust removal system and add automation. Such a system starts the filter when the first workstation is activated and automatically opens the valves in the required work zone, thus saving energy. As each workstation starts up, the corresponding valve opens, ensuring optimum use of power according to the need of the moment, while a large unit is not needed as not all operators are grinding at the same time. When the last workstation stops, the filter automatically switches off, further optimising system efficiency.

This approach not only reduces energy consumption and wear and tear on equipment, but also makes the whole process smoother and more environmentally friendly.

Solution

For this project we used GRAM high vacuum unit HFU together with the central dust collection piping and automation built in, allowing for the most optimal and user-friendly use.

The grinding dust residue generated by all jobs is now collected under the machine in a collection box, and energy consumption is significantly reduced.
