Waste production can be avoided with non-contact measuring equipment

Today's manufacturing industry is constantly faced with various challenges on how to survive in a highly competitive environment. It is constantly investing in new technologies in order to be just one small step ahead of the competition.

Today, in our blog post, we'll be talking about a device that can make significant savings in production costs, while ensuring consistent product quality. A new version of the non-contact measuring instrument was launched in September 2021 "COATMASTER FLEX"

This device is designed to check, in a non-contact way, the thickness of the paint coating on a wide variety of surfaces (metal, glass, stone, plastic, wood, etc.) before the start of the baking (powder coating) or drying (liquid coating) process, thus allowing to assess whether the coating thickness is sufficient or too thick....

With the same device, you can measure the thickness of an already crystallised layer of powder paint as well as the thickness of a dried layer of liquid paint, making it a highly versatile tool.

The principle of operation of the measuring device is based on "Advanced Thermal Optics - ATO" (advanced thermo-optics), where a heat wave is applied to a large area with a light pulse that is barely perceptible. The heat transferred through the layer is analysed using high-speed infrared sensors and innovative initialisation rhythms. The layer thickness of the coating is determined from the bake time of the thermal wave and the thermal properties of the coating material by means of initial rhythms, which are accurate.

Studies show that even today there are still situations where less than 10% of all powder coatings determine the layer thickness before the product is put into the baking/drying oven. Apart from the layer thickness to be applied, there are many external factors that cannot be fully controlled. These include, but are not limited to, the constituents of the powder coating itself, the ageing of wearing parts and the moisture content. For otherwise stable parameters, the coating thickness may also vary more than 50%. In the classic sense, the only way to prevent the film thickness from being too thin is to apply more than is necessary.

If the layer thickness is measured immediately after the coating is applied, the desired layer thickness can be achieved more accurately and the necessary changes can be made quickly. In practice, this can save up to 30% of powder coating.

So far, several providers of non-contact layer thickness gauges often fail due to the high quality requirements in the industries. The requirements include a high tolerance in handling, to ensure fast measurement results and to be able to obtain results from moving parts, as well as allowing accurate reference measurement after the furnace.

An additional advantage of COATMASTER FLEX is that the data is sent directly to the server and can be processed directly in the cloud. See the demo by logging on to:  http://coatmaster.cloud. In addition to processing documents and generating reports, production orders can be created directly in the cloud, so that the worker can concentrate on taking measurements. After the measurement, a report can be automatically generated on the measurement results, making documentation much easier. Automatic statistical notifications by e-mail are considered to be very innovative and innovative, allowing a better and faster control of the coating quality and powder consumption.

Elister OÜ owns one demo unit, which can be tried and tested in different production facilities, in order to get an accurate idea of the product's good characteristics. In the case of a demonstration, we will come to your premises and train you on how to use the device and the cloud service.

The case contains a measuring device, 2 x Bosch 4.0 Ah batteries with charger.
We provide the cloud logging codes directly with the device.
